The Karmarong community resides in the remote northern part of Mugu District, Nepal. This community comprises approximately 3,000 individuals living in about a dozen small villages.
Ethnically, the Karmarong people are of Tibetan descent and speak the Karmarong dialect, a Sino-Tibetan language. This dialect is mutually intelligible with the Mugom dialect, with about 85% lexical similarity.
The Karmarong community practices Buddhism, which significantly influences their cultural practices and daily life.
